Mental Block Harmony Big Band @ Blu Jaz, 4th May 2015, 9pm

Every first Monday of the month Blu Jaz has been featuring Jazz composers specialized in writing for large ensembles/big bands.
Large ensemble or big band writings are special. The writers will feature harmony played by multiple horns or strings (or strings, vocal… etc) weaving through with driving rhythm sections – It is a work of art and effort to execute a ‘band sound’ in this unique form of writings. It takes effort and is a demanding process. When we say LARGE, we are talking about more than 7 piece in the band, by the way.

This month, Blu Jaz features Singaporean jazz composer Jordan Wei’s

“Mental Block Harmony”

Dan Wong (Trumpet)
Fabian Lim (Alto Sax)
Daniel Chia (Tenor Sax 1)
Teo Boon Chye (Tenor Sax 2)
Pablo Tani (Bari Sax)
Justin Liew (Guitar)
Hiroaki Maekaewa (Bass), Justin Liew (Guitar)
Pablo Calzado (Drums)

and Jordan Wei on piano.

Mental block harmony is a 9-piece jazz fusion ensemble led by pianist and composer/arranger Jordan Wei.
Featuring Jordan’s alternative arrangements of popular jazz standards, do take a listen as he weaves their familiar melodies into newer styles such as neo-soul, funk and modern latin grooves.

Formed in early 2015, the band also consists of some of the best musicians in Singapore.

Come and be mesmerized by the BIG and gorgeous sound of The Mental Block Harmony.

Larger ensemble are not large for nothing. They will grab you by the ear and inspire your senses, a great way to kick off a month!!!
